How to Draw A Golden Retriever Step by Step

In my opinion, the golden retriever is the best breed of dog in the whole world. They are very cute and adorable, and have a lovely coat of fur on them. I have always been fascinated by these dogs, and used to draw them from time to time. I ended up developing my own simple approach for drawing these dogs. The steps I follow are quite simple and easy to replicate, and if you want to draw a golden retriever, you are more than welcome to try my procedure.

To draw a golden retriever, I take a top to bottom approach. I make sure the facial expressions are on point, and the body structure is simple to work on. I tend to add depth to the fur with my colors, and that is probably the best way to do so.

Start with the ears

Draw a pair of long ears.

Next the mouth

Show the tongue sticking out of the mouth.

Draw the head

The head has an oval shape encircling the mouth.

Start working on the body

Show the dog sitting on its legs.

Next the eyes and nose

The eyes are oval, and the nose too.

Add the hind leg

Draw the one on the right side of the paper first.

The other leg

Draw the other leg in a similar fashion.

Now the tail

Give your golden retriever a fluffy tail.

A collar of fur

Add some more fur around the dog’s neck.

Add some details

Just scribble some lines along the fur, here and there.

Finishing touches

Use a dark pencil to add the last few touches.

Color it

Time to color your golden retriever. Give it a nice coat of light brown color, maybe mixed with a bit of gold.
