The Chinese dragon is an important part of the country’s culture and heritage. It is a symbol of their integrity and rich cultural history. Every Chinese New Year, I sit myself down to draw a Chinese dragon. In the past, I would not be able to draw it perfectly. However, with a lot of practice, I have come up with my own approach to drawing these magnificent beasts. If you are struggling with your Chinese dragon drawings, you should take a look at the approach I use to draw mine.
For drawing a Chinese dragon, we start with its head, and the move over to the body. As complex as it may seem, we want to keep the drawing rather simple. After drawing its snake like body and adding all the smaller details, like the horns and hair, we then add a few designs on its body to complete the drawing.
Draw the head in the shape of a pear. The nose is drawn big and wide.
Use a light pencil to draw these things.
Draw the mouth under the teeth. It is kept open.
Draw the ears a bit long, and add the eyebrows.
On the head, add two horns.
Give the dragon a goatee like beard, and some hair at the back of the head.
The body is drawn in the shape of a long snake.
The designs go on the front side of the dragon’s body.
Give the tail end a nice finish.
Run a dark pencil over the outlines to give the drawing a smooth finish.
Give your Chinese dragon a festive look with some beautiful colors.
