The catfish is not an easy animal to draw. While majority of its features resemble that of any other fish, you still have to make it look a bit different by adding some additional bodily characteristics to it. I struggled to replicate a lifelike catfish at first, but eventually got the hang of it. And if I can do it, there is no reason as to why you cannot do so either.
To draw a catfish, start with its facial features and then take a top to bottom approach for drawing the rest of it. The tail, fins, and whiskers are the distinct features that you need to be careful about. If you can get those right, the rest of the drawing will fall into place on its own.
Draw an eye on the left side of the paper in the shape of a slightly tilted inverted comma.
Similarly, draw the other eye on the right side.
The mouth is slightly curved near one end.
Near the right end of the mouth, draw a small curvy fin.
A titled ‘U’ shape is drawn surrounding the eyes and mouth. This is the catfish’s body.
The tail is drawn pointing downwards, a bit curved.
Keep going. You’re doing great.
Draw the fins on the back of the fish now.
Run your pencil through the fins to add some depth to them.
Gently run your pencil around the fish’s mouth to draw the whiskers.
Add the final details on the mouth and body.
You are done with the drawing part. Now you just have to color it.
