Although tiny, the caterpillar has some really distinct features. If you want to try and draw a caterpillar, you must incorporate all these features into your drawing. When I drew my first caterpillar, I was quite pleased with the way it had turned out. Slowly, I developed a much simpler approach to drawing a caterpillar, one that followed a stepwise process. For beginners, this approach is really helpful.
To draw a caterpillar, we first start with the head, and then work on its swirly body. The features or expressions on its face and the simple designs on its body help it look a bit realistic. A final dark outline makes the drawing look sharp.
Draw an oval shaped eye on the left side of the paper.
Draw a similar eye on the right now.
Just swirl your pencil gently around the canvas.
Finish drawing the swirly body.
On top of the eyes, draw a pair of curly antennas.
Give your caterpillar a wide smile.
Draw the belly of the caterpillar by drawing another curvy line on the lower part of the body.
Just drag your pencil gently on the belly in a horizontal manner.
Continue with the lines. This time, on the back of the caterpillar.
Small dots are added on the body.
Use a dark pencil to give the outline a smooth finish.
Use some bright colors to complete the artwork.
