Introduction
Peonies are very colorful, and while painting them, I really liked going crazy with the colors. I know many of you do the same, but I’m here to disappoint you a little. The colorful look of the peonies need to be a bit regulated. Otherwise, the whole painting will look overdone. This is something I learnt from watching a bunch of tutorials on how to paint peonies. These tutorials also helped me work out a better approach on doing the same.
You can paint peonies in two ways. You can either use watercolors, or go for acrylics. Both of these mediums can give you some amazing results. But it’s up to you to decide how you want to approach the painting. For a more realistic artwork, acrylics is preferred. However, if you’re into minimalistic designs, watercolors should be fine.

30 minutes is all it’s going to take for you to learn, and paint this beautiful peony. It’s not that heavily detailed, but the coloring is quite sublime. I love how the color blends have been used here. It gives the flower a good amount of depth, which makes it look a bit realistic. That being said, this painting can get somewhat difficult to work on. Hence, I recommend you try this only if you’re familiar with acrylic painting.

The shading in this artwork is also picture perfect. This painting can get a bit difficult to work on, which is why I think you’d be better off working on it if you’re skilled in acrylic painting.

The whole artwork would’ve looked a bit better if only it had a bit of depth in it. But from a beginner’s point of view, I think this painting is very neatly done, and has a fine look to it.

For our next video lesson, we look at a more minimalistic approach to painting peonies. The artist here uses watercolors, but if you want, you can opt for acrylics as well. But as a beginner’s level painting, I think it’s okay.
