The night sky is like a blanket of peace and serenity. With the moon and stars shimmering in the darkness, it appears as if the sky were dressed in black, shrouded with tiny sparkling crystals. Like many others, I too have tried to capture the night sky’s beauty on my canvas, but I just couldn’t manage to get it right. But that didn’t bother me. I knew what I had to do. So I picked up my computer, looked up a few tutorials on how to paint a night sky, and got to work. Those tutorials really helped me with my painting, and there’s no reason why they can’t be of help to you too.
You paint a night sky by ensuring three key elements. First, you need to place your elements, like clouds, the moon, stars, and other celestial objects you might want to focus on. Next, you apply a simple coat of paint on the sky, as well as the other elements. Finally, you add a bit of finesse to your work by using darker shades in certain areas of the sky.
A cloudy night sky, all lightened up by the glittering of the stars. Sounds kind of dreamy, doesn’t it? Well, Chloe here turns this dreamy experience into a serene artwork with her amazing painting skills. Everything about this painting is just perfect from top to bottom. It’s amazing how one can be this creative with so few elements in your art. Truly a work of wonder this painting; something I’d have hanging on my living room walls.

Stars are the second most beautiful things you can spot in the night sky; the first place belongs to the moon. This painting is somewhat like the one you’ve just seen, only this one has a moon accompanying the stars. Nevertheless, this small addition makes the painting look even more serene. It’s as if the moon were the sole embodiment of peace and tranquility. Despite a beginner or intermediate level artwork, this painting is still a masterpiece in my opinion.

Chloe portrays her amazing painting skills once again with this scenic painting of the night sky. Unlike her last painting that we saw at the start, this one doesn’t have any clouds. It’s a clear night sky where you can see the moon and stars shining brightly. Chloe also adds a shade of pink right near the horizon, making it seem as if the sun had set just a while back. This is what you’d call poetic painting at its finest.

Keeping things simple, Shiba shows you how to paint a beautiful image of the night sky in watercolors. This artwork swings between being aesthetic and realistic at the same time. However, at the end of the day, it’s more leaning towards the aesthetic end than the realistic one. There isn’t much detail in this painting, but as you can tell, plenty of effort has been given in giving it the proper color shades. All in all, it’s quite a beautiful piece of art.

This is one of the easiest digital painting tutorials you’ll come across on YouTube. That’s partly because this painting of the night sky doesn’t require much in terms of elements and techniques, and partly because the tutorial is very well explained. Even if you’re a newbie with digital drawing tools or programs, you’ll feel very comfortable with this particular video tutorial. Go through it properly, and you too will be able to create a similar scene of a starry night.

Although it seems simple and easy at first glance, there’s a lot going on in this painting. From the exquisite color blends to the amazing shading techniques, everything you see on that canvas takes a lot of effort to pull off. I won’t call it difficult to work on, but this painting does have a few complexities to it. You need to have the creative mindset of a professional painter to see it all. Once you go through this tutorial, and start experimenting with the colors yourself, you’ll see what I’m going on about.

In order to paint a beautiful image of the night sky, you need to ensure the inclusion of two things in particular. Firstly, you need to include the moon and stars, and secondly, you need to have a gradient across the sky, showing a bit of color shade to give the artwork an aesthetic look to it. This painting you see below has got it all. It’s an absolutely simple process, and can be done by anyone. Although not a masterpiece, the inclusion of the elements mentioned above makes this piece a beautiful work of art.
