In these 10 tutorials, we will discuss how to draw a glass of water. A glass of water is drawn by using multiple techniques depending on the result you are trying to achieve. Different people have varying perceptions regarding the glass of water and how it looks. We cover almost all the ways to draw various types of glasses of water in the most effective manner. These ten tutorials are categorized based on their levels of complexity.
To draw a glass of water we generally require black and white charcoal pencils, eraser, and a gray-toned paper. However, some artists use only on HB pencil to draw the whole glass of water rather than using the various categories (HB, 2B and 4B, and so on). The main thing to keep in mind while drawing a glass filled with water is that you have to take care of the contrast between light (white) and dark (black) tones and proceed accordingly.
A realistic glass of water can be a bit complex to draw. But, it can be simplified if a reference photo is taken. We try and recreate the same effects and contrasts in our drawing as in the reference picture. Firstly, a rough outline of the glass is drawn. Then the lighter and darker tones are added using circular strokes. The artist uses charcoal pencils and blending stumps to create various contrasts on a toned paper.

Some drawings leave you stunned. This superb video tutorial does just that. The drawing of water-filled in a glass by Tom McPherson is exceptional because he uses a single 4B pencil to do it. With this pencil, he creates breathtaking shades of white, grey, and black that perfectly contrast each other. The reflection created by the light striking the water, as well as the shadow is expertly drawn. All that without uttering a word, with a beautiful background score.

Maybe words are not enough to describe how Naushad Ahmed makes this drawing of a glass of water falling and captured in the drawing. This must be termed as the highest level of artistry at work. The water rushing out of the glass is presented immaculately too. The grey and white colors are efficiently contrasted as well. The tutorial could have been a bit slower, but it is still an informative one.

This short tutorial shows how we can draw a 2-D drawing of a simple glass of water. For a total newbie, this guide may be helpful. However, it does not go to the next level. There is no intense shading or shadows. The drawing is just a good one. Also, the background music is quite odd and does not resonate well with the flow of the drawing.

This tutorial presents another variation of how we can draw a glass of water. Mr. Leonardo masterfully draws the glass with straw immersed in the water at 45 degrees. He also shows the bending effect as the straw enters the water surface. The result is a spectacular drawing of a water glass with a brilliant shadow, greyish background, and also bubbles created inside the glass.

When we draw a glass of water, there can be more than one variation to the different items we can add to water, such as ice cubes, straws, or powder. This tutorial explains how we can draw water-filled glass with ice cubes in it. The tutorial starts with the ellipses being drawn, then the dark and light tones are carefully added. Finally, a shadow is drawn creating an incredible image.

Similar to the drawing in tutorial 5, this is another awesome drawing of a glass of water in 3-D, but without a shadow. Nirmal uses the same traditional approach to create black shades at the bottom, while greyish shades at the top of the glass. A realistic view of water bursting out of the glass is also drawn, which is the dominant feature of this drawing. The only thing missing is a shadow. Nonetheless, it is a superb piece of effort.

A glass can be of any shape or size. However, a smaller glass is termed as a wine glass (water can also be poured into it!). So, this tutorial explains how to draw a simple wine glass with a liquid in it. Using a simple HB pencil the presenter creates a very good drawing of the wine glass. There are no shadows or any special black and white contrasts created in this drawing.
